The best little juke joint in town! One of the best places to go after midnight  (though it's less crowded before 11PM) . Located in an old strip mall in the middle of a (somewhat sketchy) residential neighborhood, this is quite simply the 'real deal'. On weekends you'll find a mix of older regulars and a college crowd, shakin' their tails to the house band, the Hollywood All Stars . Beer is served in 40s and set up are available.

Many Memphians say that the tourists have killed Wild Bill's. On some nights it's true; you go in and you see all these uncomfortable whiteys sandwiched in amongst the regulars (read: BLACK PEOPLE. gasp!), trying to act like they're down with drinking from 40's but making it patently obvious that they are certain that they picked the wrong tourist destination from their city guide. Or you see the annoying yuppies wearing Stax shirts that they just bought at the museum that day making obnoxious fools of themselves, and a part of you wishes you'd just stayed home.

On some nights though, it's the complete opposite experience. You will leave Wild Bill's feeling like a new person, your belly full of malt liquor, your soul filled with memories of new friends, and toe tappin' tunes stuck in your head for days.

When you walk in and pay your cover the first thing you notice is that the seating is set up family reunion-style, in long rows of tables that stretch from the front to the back of the joint. This means that it's inevitable that you will have to sit next to, across from, or near strangers. If you are apprehensive about meeting new people whose lives are vastly different from yours, Wild Bill's is not the place for you. If you are excited about making new friends and dance partners, grab a 40 from the back (they drop two plastic cups on top; how convenient!) and have a seat.

The first time I went here I ended up making friends with three liquor truck drivers who shared shots of their vodka score of the night with my friends and me: a tasty delight called "Thor's Hammer" (let us never speak of this beverage again, folks). Then we all ended up dancing to the Hollywood All-Stars til the wee hours with a guy and his wife on his 50th birthday.

I can't guarantee that you'll have a good time here, because Wild Bill's isn't a place for folks with societal hangups or a deep-seated fear of black people. But if you want to dance your tail off, listen to one of the best house bands in town, and drink cheap beer until the lights get blurry, you're all set at Wild Bill's.
